May 2017

May, 2017 Newsletter

As noted by Joanne, almost all of our organizations have incoming officers in place for the 2017-2018 terms. The only exception being the AMVETS, where at the April meeting it was decided to hold the elections in the May meeting. If you are eligible and not a member AMVETS Post 4250 is welcoming new members.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of what was once our Men’s Auxiliary. For many years they did a lot of very good things for our post. In their final contribution that gave the post $2432. They also gave The Post Auxiliary $2431. Thank you gentlemen, you will be sorely missed.
I would also like to thank AMVETS Post 4250 Ladies Auxiliary for the $500 that they gave to the post last month. We will put it to good use.
Joanne mentions our post Appreciation Day on June 17. We have asked one of our newly transferred in members, Wendell Reinink to entertain for the afternoon. We have yet to decide what the meal will be. We are leaning strongly towards hiring a BBQ cook to handle that. The ability to get volunteers being what it is makes it very difficult to plan events like such as this.
On Wednesday April 26 we had a super turnout for burger night. Adding Ken North’s retirement from Cronk’s Hardware made it better than it already was. We need one more person who can commit to working every other Wednesday to give us two full crews. One more person, PLEASE!
Our planning meetings, which have been held on the 4th Thursday at 10:00 a.m. will be moving to 7 p.m, also on the 4th Thursday, to accommodate incoming Auxiliary president Jim O’Neil. The change in time is effective for the May meeting.
AMVET Riders, Dept. of Michigan is asking everyone to join them along with the Vietnam Veterans of America in a motorcycle escort of the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial
Wall AND The Michigan Middle Eastern Conflict Memorial Wall. The Escort will travel North along M37 from VFW Post 4249/AMVETS Post 4250 in Newaygo to AMVETS Post 1988 in Baldwin. Staging begins at 11A.M. at our post. Departure to AMVETS Post 1988 in Baldwin is at 12:30 P.M.
Although this is a motorcycle escort, all vehicles are invited to join. We will be opening the bar at 10:30 and several donations of donuts have already been offered. Please help us show our appreciation and gratitude to the fallen heroes of both Vietnam War and the Middle Eastern Conflict.
Memorial Day is May 29. This year we have added one more Cemetery to the list of ceremony’s that the Honor Guard will conduct. With that in mind, instead of starting at 8:30 at Newaygo Cemetery, will start at 8:15, the 8:30 at Newaygo Catholic Cemetery. Then the newly added Ceremony at Garfield Cemetery at 8:45. All other remaining ceremony’s and the wreath drop at Bridgeton Bridge will be at the same time as former years.
The final Ceremony at the Post is at 12 p.m. with a light lunch following.
Have a great month.
