February 2018
February, 2018
Comrades,
The first month of the new year is gone already. The weather has really been up and down as far as the temperature goes.
We had our first Burrito night since October. It went pretty well. We ran out of meat early.
We have the steak fry on the 10th. We need help as usual. It’s the same people working all of the time. They are getting burned out. We have Burrito’s on the 24th of this month.
There is a District meeting on March 11 at the VFW on Apple in Muskegon. Dinner at 12 and the meeting starts at 1 p.m.
We are having a benefit on Feb. 17 for Tom Muma whos is only 45 and has stomach cancer.
We are hoping that our comrades who are having health problems get well soon. Greg Meyers is going blind and has colon cancer, so say some prayers for him.
God bless our troops and keep them safe.

Happy winter!! If there is such a thing! Spring is just around the corner. For those of you who plan on renewing your Auxiliary membership or signing up for the first time, now is the time to do it. New membership forms are in the Auxiliary folder at the Post. We’re looking forward to having more people joining the Auxiliary. The cost of a single year membership is $26 and a life membership is available and the cost varies depending on your age.
We will be having a fish fry with coleslaw and French fries as well as shrimp or wings with coleslaw and fries Friday, February 2nd. Please come out and support the Post and help with the fish fry and other activities if you’re able.
The Auxiliary will be holding their monthly meeting Monday, February 12th, @ 7:00pm.
Thanks to all who participated in the pool tourneys on Wednesday nights. With the additional $1 donated each week, we raised over $275 toward having the tables re-felted.
There have been questions that have come up pertaining to the VFW Auxiliary membership requirements. It is important that you fill out the application fully and correctly so that you can get your card in a timely manner. Jane Clear said that she has a print out with all the info on who is eligible and how to become a member. These printouts are available at the Post in the Auxiliary folder. If you have any questions about filling this out correctly you may contact me. 1-231-519-6626.
Thank you and hope you all have had a safe and enjoyable Holiday Season!
Looking forward to GREAT 2018!

AMVETS 4250 NewsWell now that the Holidays are over it’s time to start concentrating on thinking Spring and seeing what we can do to increase our membership. So, if you have friends or relatives who are Veterans bring them in. We’d love to meet them.
On an equally serious note, I’d like you all to join me in NOT watching the super bowl. (Small, uncaptalized letters intended.) Roger Goodell and the nfl has intentionally spit on us and all Veterans. If you aren’t already aware of it, the nfl has refused to print an ad proposed by our National AMVETS that would have been in the super bowl program. The add simply said “Please Stand” They refused the ad saying the they don’t wish to see political ads in their program. Well, I have a question for goodell: What the H is this garbage of allowing players to kneel during the National Anthem if not purely political? They’ve been trying to shove their America hating agenda down our throats for the last couple of years.
I know, the AMVETS is supposed to be apolitical. This, however to me is not a political statement. It’s a statement of support for our flag, our nation, and all those who ever put on the uniform to defend them.
Nobody else has mentioned the Cornhole Tournament sheduled for March 3, 2018. If you haven’t already done so, get yourself a partner and come on out. These events are always a lot of fun.
What would a newsletter be this time of year without a plead to attend our meetings with an eye toward the elections of next years officers AMVETS nominations are in the April meeting, while the VFW’s first nomination is the March meeting.
Have a great month and a great 2018!
