June 2021
June, 2021

We are having a little more freedom. Hopefully we will get it all back.
The Honor Guard ceremonies were mostly well attended. A couple of cemetery’s had fewer than normal people, but the others had more than normal, so on balance I think that attendance was up. One thing is for sure and that is that the Honor Guard performance was spot on. The Chaplain’s prayer was especially meaningful this year. He edited if from the normal honors prayer to include wording that made it clear that we were there to honor those who gave their life so that we can enjoy freedom.
The Auxiliary has the fish fry on the 4th. The AMVETS have then Steak Fry on the 12th. Croton Legion is having their parade on July 3. They will be having their part on the causeway that evening.
The Honor Guard has been busy and will continue to be all summer as Covid restrictions are eased.
The post has been holding its own with the support of the local community. Our new Quartermaster, Dick Knowles, has been experimenting with different food truck venders in an attempt to augment our inability to get help in the kitchen.
With Memorial Day behind us, it’s time to start thinking about the 4th of July. I hope everyone can have a safe and fun summer.
God bless everyone as well as our troops, at home and deployed.
Larry Reid,
Commander VFW Post 4249
I hope that you all have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The Auxiliary is raising the price of the fish fry from $8 to $9 starting this month due to increase in supply costs. The shrimp dinner prices will go up a little also to
$8 for a 6 piece dinner and $10 for an 8 piece dinner. You will be able to add shrimp to a fish dinner for $1 a piece.
The Auxiliary will be having their monthly fish fry or shrimp, Friday, June 4th , from 5:00-7:00. These will continue throughout the year on the first Friday of each month.
The Auxiliary will be holding their monthly meeting Monday,
June 14th @ 6:00.
Keep an eye on the activities calendar and come and help and participate when you can.
We are looking forward to getting new members and working with all of you at the different activities.
Be safe and stay healthy.
Jim O’Neil
President, VFW 4249 Auxiliary
June’s meeting is on the 1st this month, it being the first Tuesday.
On May 30, 2021 our AMVETS National sponsored Rolling to Remember, a motorcycle demonstration in Washington
D.C. to raise awareness of the critical issues facing our nation’s veterans and demand action for the 82,000 service members missing, as well as raise awareness of the 22 veterans who die by suicide each day.
The Steak Fry this month is on the 12th and it is our turn to host, so if you can see your way clear to give us a hand it will really be appreciated.
If you are a fan of Karaoke get your voice in tune and come on out. We have been offered the services of Larry TerBeek who usually has a nice following. We’re not sure exactly what time he will start, possibly at 6 if we can figure out how to keep it from interfering with food delivery.
I have been in contact with Versity to schedule a Blood Drive. As you know, the Riders Chapter has been sponsoring them in the past and with their demise the Post will continue their effort. Versity had previously scheduled a Blood Drive for Thursday, June 17. That Blood Drive will take place as scheduled.
Have a great month.
Dan Boutell
Commander, AMVETS Post 4250
