March 2020
March, 2020

The Aux has the Fish Fry on the 6th of the month. Then it’s their Steak Fry the 14th.
We have been having Burrito’s on the forth Saturday of the month. They haven’t been going very well as we barely cover the cost, if we do do that. I want to thank everyone who has contributed by coming in to enjoy them and especially those who take the time to prepare the food and serve it.
The Chili Cook-off that we did on the 16th didn’t go over as well as the prior one that we did.
We hare having a Cornhole Tournament on March 7.
It’s that time of the year again and this time is no different than every other year. First nominations for all Post officers is during the normal March business meeting. We need to fill all of the position or we will no longer be a VFW Post.
The same people, with minor variations, have been filling these positions for the last several years and it’s time to get some new blood involved. If you are interested in Post 4249 continuing to succeed and grow, we need your help and input. There is no better way to do that than to attend the March meeting on the 12th. It would be nice to see some new faces at the meeting.
Lloyd Fowler is still at Fremont. Frank Wolever is getting around quite well after his stroke.
I guess I will say everyone be safe and take care.
God bless our troops deployed and home and our USA. Let hope that the coronavirus stays away from most of the country. I know there will be cases, but hopefully not an epidemic.
Larry Reid,
Commander VFW Post 4249
As you all hopefully know, the benefits that all veterans now enjoy is due to the hard work of veterans service organizations such as the VFW, American legion and AMVETS.
Our AMVETS Post was started with the intention of getting more local veterans who are not VFW eligible involved with these activities.
AMVETS Mission: To enhance and safeguard the entitlements for all American Veterans who have served honorably and to improve the quality of life for them, their families, and the communities where they live through leadership, advocacy and services.
It was hoped that the inclusion of more local veterans would also enhance the VFW’s ability to stay afloat. Between AMVETS, our Class C liquor license, and the VA’s Nrex Clinic, we have largely succeeded.
However, we the AMVETS, just like the VFW are running with people in leadership positions who would like to pass the baton. If you are a member please consider stepping up. If you are not a member, but are a veteran come join us.
After all of the hard work that many of you and your friends have contributed in the last 5-6 years, it would truly be a shame to see it all go for naught.
Our Riders Chapter is sponsoring their first blood drive of 2020 on Thursday March 19 between the hours of 2 pm and 6:30 pm. They are looking forward to a great turnout where they can partner with you to save lives in our communities.
Have a great month.
Dan Boutell
Commander, AMVETS Post 4250
