March 2021
March, 2021

A big thank you Tony and Jennifer Guthrie for putting on a chili cook-off in February. It was not a heavily promoted due to the fear of over crowding, but they were still we able to contribute $450 to the post. Not only that, but the bar did great. Jennifer also helped behind the bar, unpaid. Thank you again, Tony and Jennifer.
Friday, March 5 will be the Aux. Fish Fry. The 13th is the VFW Steak Fry. February’s Steak Fry was very successful, as we ran out of everything except steaks.
We will be holding a Cornhole tournament on the 27th along with a pool tournament.
This month’s Post meeting will be on the 11th and it brings first nominations for 2021-22 officers. It’s a great opportunity for those that feel that they have a “better idea” to step up and put them in play.
God bless everyone, most especially our troops, deployed and at home. Keep safe and warm.
Larry Reid,
Commander VFW Post 4249
I hope that you all are safe and warm with all these frigid temperatures and wind and snow going on. Just remember Spring is right around the corner
The Auxiliary is raising the price of the fish fry from $7 to $8 starting this month. The shrimp dinner prices will remain the same. The Auxiliary will be having their monthly fish fry or shrimp, Friday, March 5th, from 5:00-7:00. These will continue throughout the year on the first Friday of each month.
The Auxiliary will be holding their monthly meeting Monday, March 8th @ 7:00.
Keep an eye on the activities calendar and come and help and participate when you can.
Auxiliary membership dues are due.
Auxiliary membership forms are in the Auxiliary folder at the Post. We’re looking forward to having more people joining the Auxiliary. The cost of a single year membership is $26 and a life membership is available and the cost varies depending on your age.
We are looking forward to getting new members and working with all of you at the different activities.
Be safe and try to stay warm.
Jim O’Neil
President
First I would like to thank Commander Reid for his help with our Steak Fry in February. We were able to post a profit of almost $500 that we sorely need.
The shutdown has has put just as big a damper on our AMVETS activities as it has on all of the other organizations. Our State Convention and the Fall SEC meetings were canceled. The Department of Michigan’s Mid-Winter break was moved from a two day event at a hotel to a single day of meetings at our Higgins Lake Lodge.
We hope to get back in the swing of things with our March meeting on the first Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Spring also brings us the same needs as the VFW and its Auxiliary. We have our first nominations for 2021-22 Post officers, however, ours do not happen until the April monthly meeting. If you would like to help us do a better job of assisting fellow veterans please consider joining AMVETS. If you are already a member, please join us at the meeting. You might very well have some excellent ideas the will help strengthen our, as yet, young Post.
Have a great month.
Dan Boutell
Commander, AMVETS Post 4250
